thing#17

I don’t like the fact that my delicious account and my Facebook account are now linked. I will probably be changing that soon. I like the idea of website that is for tagging. I found a lot of thing easily that I was interested in because of the tags that others had already done. I think this website is going to have a great place in education. It makes finding what you were searching for. I did find that some tags seemed meaningless but that was when I was searching for my own curiosity not when I was searching for the activity.

I am still not 100percent sold on weather I will use this a lot but for specific thing I will probably use it. Honestly at this point I feel I am starting to forget our earlier 23 things maybe I need to go back and look at them or compare them to see which ones I feel are the best. I feel kind of overwhelmed by the amount of things on this website. Maybe I will just need to revisit it later, because I still feel this website has a lot to offer.

thing #16

I chose to use ustart.org and as where it was pretty easy to use I probable will not make it my homepage. Some of the widgets I already have something similar to it on my desktop screen. I did like that I could get news weather and much more as soon as I opened my browser. However my homepage is my apsu email and if it wasn’t my homepage I would never check it.

The calendars I loved. I already have made a calendar actually so this was kind of just a chance for me to update it and do a homework assignment at the same time. I can’t think of anything I don’t like about my online calendar I can get on it through my phone and can see what my day, week, or year looks like.

I checked out mystickies.com and it was great. I went ahead and downloaded it because it seemed like something that would be great for a college student. The website describes itself as a bookmark on steroids. And wow it isn’t kidding. I use bookmarks all the time when I do research papers but the truth is I hate looking through pages and pages of information. This not only lets you go on the website that you were on but it marks the place you were looking at as well. The best part I have found is that I can put them on every website I have tried to so far. It might not seem worth the download. But if you have to do as much research as I do you’ll love it.

I love using the wiki spaces in our class and I love all of the opportunities that wiki allows. Wiki has allowed for people to share the knowledge that they have with the world for years now. But I have been told my entire life it feels like that if it is anything wiki related it is not accurate. Thank goodness that this activity is blowing that out of the water.

I would love to use wiki spaces in my classroom. I think that it could be great for students to be able to add their thought as well as for parents to look at what is said and how their students are learning. Also wiki spaces is a great place for students to find information. Giving students a chance to tell what they know and build off of each other’s knowledge is a great opportunity.

I found that some of the wikis I went on were not easy to navigate around, I think that with a little more work these problems can be worked out and that they could be more user friendly. Wiki like everything else has been growing and becoming more advanced. I can’t wait to see what knew things they are going to come with next.

Oh my!!! I did not like doing this on the computer I like mind mapping that's fine but as for the actual websites I went on they got on my last nerve. Maybe I was just having computer issues but my computer froze then the internet stopped working.

I use to do a lot of flow charts in high school, of course with pin and paper not a website. However it was different then because I had to do it. Now I need to do it. I chose flowcharts.com and found it was very user friendly and that it got my ideas out and put them somewhere I could see them. I thought this was a great outline for me to use. It gave me some good directions to go in. but I was missing a lot of the facts in this design.

When I did the mind mapping it made it easier to see the full picture for this I used bubbl.us one reason I chose this was because it didn't say free trial when I first clicked on it. I am tired of 30 day free trial adds.

Once I got on this website I found it easy to navigate through. I started making my brain map right off the bat and the ideas kept rolling out of my head. I could branch off and expand more on the facts then with the flow chart.

I think this would be a great tool for students to use in writing. I want to teach young children though (kindergarten) and I can’t see a huge need for this there. I know that as an elementary educator I could teacher higher subjects. I think students would be able to express themselves better in writing if they could see where they wanted to end up before they started writing.

This is the link to the picture I created for Google Drive.

I don't know how much I really like the idea of other people being able to access my work at this point. In the future I might find it is a good tool to use while collaborating with colleagues. As teachers we are going to need to hare idea and help expand on ideas that others have come up with. When I do this I hope to be able to find an easy and accessible program to use and google drive may be the program I use. After all it is very easy to use and to access. It is part of the google family that we have grown to love in our lifetime.

I think that my students can use this as a tool to help them to do group projects more easily. They might even enjoy it more because they can use technology and they won’t have to worry about finding the time to meet up at a specific time when they are all free. I also think that this would allow for them to take their work with them out of the classroom.

thing #12

The first Thing I chose was google trends. I liked it because I could see what was popular on the google search engine. I found that I didn’t know a lot of what was going on in the world. Being able to view what others had viewed allowed for me to get caught up on what was going on in the world. Google trends also lets you see what has been trending in the past. I am not sure how often I will actually use this to be honest. I can’t say I will be getting on here every day. I might like to get on here once a week to just check up on things in the world. I think in a class this would be great for having students do research on current events.

I also chose Google calendars. I love this I will be using this every day and I can sync it with my phone laptop, and iPad. I could defiantly use this in my class and since it can be public parents and students can look at it. Parents will be able to see whether their child has a test or quiz. Or a student can look to see if they have homework due. I think every teacher should use this. Or every person who has a busy schedule.

thing #11

I like just typing in the type of things that I was interested in and searching for them. I don’t know if I will be able to follow all of the ones that I marked but I liked the fact that my options were endless. I knew the type of things I wanted to read about. That is one of the reasons that I found the basic search easy. I liked being able to find feeds that were both educational and none educational. I like the option to follow the blogs based on child development. Instead of always having to read something an institution is saying I can see what actually early childhood educators are saying.

I am unsure if I actually subscribed to the feeds or not I went back and watched the videos from thing #10 again. And followed the directions I hope I did everything I needed to in order to get notified of the updates. If not I checked a whole lot of wrong things. I might have gone subscribing crazy.

I found one blog I really didn’t like I am not sure what it had to do with early childhood other then it sounded like a bunch of mothers complaining about their children. I did not subscribe to this and soon narrowed my search but I still thought it was a sad blog for anyone. But then again I am not am parent. I guess that technically it did fall under childhood.  Overall it was easy to use and a great resource

thing #10

I love RSS

This was fantastic I had no idea I could make a list to get updates simply by choosing what I want to follow. Now I don’t have to hunt things down. I liked the way the video said to turn the arrows around. Now instead of hunting for new news all over the place the new news is going to be sent to me.

I know that the point of this assignment was to find educational sites to subscribe to, but I chose to follow the vogue site as well. I love clothes and fashion. I want to use this in my daily life as well as my professional life. I wanted to save time in all parts of my life not just while I am in the classroom.
I also chose sites to follow to help me while I teach I will be able to get new strategies of how teach. I like being able to subscribe and be told when they have a new idea. This can allow for faster ways to communicate between teachers around the world.

RSS is going to change things in the educational field forever we can have every type of information at our fingertips. And when something new happens in our field we can instantly be notified instead of have to hunt it down.
