thing #6

The website that I chose was rubbet.com it is a website to help edit pictures. One thing I really liked about it was that you could also make collages if you wanted to. I thought this would be a great tool to use for making a class collage. You do have to register in order to save your photos I loved the fact that you could add boarders or stickers to any of the pictures. I would use this for things like honor students. I had fun with this I had a picture of my little brother when he was yunger and I was completely able to make it look like new it wasn’t as good as a professional grade but I was able to add the color back and get rid of the fold In the middle of the picture. I wsh I could have changed some of the stickers a little more. I had a stick that was just an outline I wish I could have filled it in instead.it was a fun tool to play with and it was completely free unless you chose to upgrade. Here is a link to the site for anyone who would like to give it a try http://www.ribbet.com/app/#/home/welcome

Web 2.0, what does it mean? To be honest it means stress, headaches, and a lot of extra work. Or so I had thought. After reading the articles on web 2.o I can see what an advantage it is going to be as a teacher and as a student. Web 2.0 means knowledge and plenty of it. And that doesn’t mean it is all just one point of view or one example. It means that there is plenty of good and useful information out there for us to gather. The challenge we now face is to find information that will be useful to us. A lot of the information out there will be false. We must teach our students how to identify the information that is correct and that which has no facts to rely upon. Web 2.0 allows for us to have more information at our fingertips and allows for us to share what we know as well.
School 2.0 allows for our students to use this new information and new sources to gather greater information. School 2.0 will integrate all the great things that web 2.0 has to offer. Someday technology will be almost impossible to live without and school 2.0 will allow for students to be prepared for that.
Someday schools will be more focused on teaching students how to gather information from places like Wikipedia or peoples blogs to use as reliable information. The school will show how to gather supporting information for resources gathered here rather than just refusing them as research. I believe one day notebooks and pencils will nearly disappear except on special occasions. Once into higher grade levels I believe that laptops and tablets will be used more than paper and pencil. I look forward to this day I know that it is coming and I want to help guide a generation of learners into the great knowledge we have yet to see.

Commenting on a blog helps to make a community out of those involved. It can make close contacts out of people who never have met and never will. It can build a support team and break down barriers between people. Have that type of community to interact with can give new ideas and support t others in the group. I think that commenting makes the blog stronger. Otherwise it is one person sharing their thoughts with who even happens to stumble upon it. I thought it was important that one website said that responding to blogs was important or was proper blogging etiquette. As teachers not responding may make a student or parent feel unimportant. I also like how it said that if the responses are going to become to long that it may be necessary to start a new blog. If a parent is looking for an assignment and is having trouble finding the page number because there are a hundred post about problem number 2 then a new blog should be created.
I chose Five blogs to follow Laura Cooper because I wanted to get the view of someone on the fort Campbell campus, who likely has a different background and opinion on thing then I do. I chose three from my class Pamela Wood, Joya Threalkill and Ashley Irwin. I chose these three because we are in the same class going through the same experiences, in a way. My last one way Kayla McCarson I chose her because she is in the other class time and although it is the same class I wanted to see if her experiences related close to mine. I also found that on one particular post we had much in common.
I have not chosen my other to blogs to follow yet I will find them soon and update everyone as to what they are.

thing #3

Blogs are a great source of communication. I think it would be great to use blogging as a teacher. A class blog could help students to discuss homework and for the teacher to be able to see any questions that might arise. Also parents could have a post so that they could discuss any trouble they are having with their child as well as the teacher be able to add input into the conversation. Finding a group with similar interest or issues can be helpful so parents may feel more comfortable discussing the issues the see with the teacher if other parents could get involved. Also teachers could set up group assignment in which students could work together on the blog instead of in person. This could be a more convent way for some students to work and it will integrate technology into their assignment. I think that teachers need a release as well and a blog for teachers to comment and ask for other educators’ opinions and recommendations could be useful. This way you could get help from a teacher in New York, or china to help you as where otherwise you wouldn’t be able.

thing #2

Wow!!! This is the first time I have ever blogged and it is a challenge. I have never even really been on a true blog site, or at least one that I found worthy of staying on. I have been on sites were people are trash talking each other but that’s always by accident and I have never seen a point of commenting myself or staying on the page even. I chase to my post to be called Ashley Vanwormer. I chose to use my first and last name because it is my blog and it is my thoughts, and therefore I wanted to take ownership of it. My posting name is avanwormer. I use this name often for usernames or such because it is easy for me and most people know that when they see it that it is me. It is also a simple way for me to recognize that it is mine. It was crazy to create this blog I had to keep going back to the instructions and rereading them to make sure I had done the correct steps. I kept getting lost and on one screen I found there were two button titled “more” I kept choosing the wrong one because I was unaware of the second button and was steps behind everyone else however I soon caught up and was able t o stay on track to creating my blog. I Really liked creating my avater I chose one that looked like me because I thought that was the best way to represent myself. I would like to think my avater represents me but I find it hard to believe a small little animated character can show a true personality of someone. However it was still a very fun part of the blogging experience.

The hardest habit for me is probable habit # 3 and Habit #7 1/2 combined/ Habit #3says to view problems as challenges. I think that often times I find myself discouraged if I am struggling to do something. Although I know this is an issue it makes me feel like I might not be good enough to accomplish the task I am working on. However, I do know that the best thing for me to do when this happens is to take a minute to calm down. I like to completely leave the task and come back to it later. This both helps me to think about it without having to actually do the activity as well as to think about it in a different way.  Habit #7 1/2 is hard because I want to stay focused on my work even if it would be best to put it aside for a little while. I think that if it was easier for me to relax then I wouldn’t have as much trouble with habit #3. It is finding time to relax or ways to relax that I find the challenge because in the back of my mind is always the thought of I should be doing this or I should be doing that.
The easiest habit for me is habit #4. Habit #4 states that you accept responsibility for your own learning. I have always found it easy to take the blame for my own mistakes whether in learning or in other aspects of my life. I have always thought if I want the credit for the good stuff I do then I will have to take responsibility for the bad as well. I have never so much as complained to a teacher when I got a bad grade. I have always found it kind of stupid, even, when people say they made a bad grade because the teacher didn’t like them. I am really glade I have this as my easy habit. In life as well as learning we have to take responsibility for ourselves.
